Michael is the winner of the the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) Young American Composers Competition and will be commissioned to write a new work for the PSO, to be performed in February of 2015. The new work will demonstrate some connection to the nine symphonies of Beethoven (this connection may be quite obvious, or much more obscure.)
The commission comes with the PSO celebration of their “90th anniversary” season. Starting with the 14/15 season, the PSO, under the direction of music director Robert Moody, will perform all nine Beethoven Symphonies: three per season over the 14/15, 15/16, and 16/17 seasons.
Michael will also be a part of a “mini-residency,” participating in community events, which may include educational symposiums, master classes, donor lectures, and Q&A events.
