PROGRAM NOTE

The Symphony of the Hawai‘i Forests was created to tell the story of Hawai‘i's forests and empower students, educators, and the general public to connect to our trees, be part of the movement to enhance our forests, through planting trees, taking better care of existing trees, and contributing resources toward impact programs that support tree planting and tree care.

The projects instills a profound, lifelong love of nature through the breadth of Hawai‘i's artistic genres, media, and practitioners. The opening movement, KĀWILI: Life Intertwined was animated by Elyse Chai, with music composed by Michael-Thomas Foumai.

Deep in the forest, a girl eagerly attempts to fit in with friends, but discovers a baby ʻŌhiʻa tree and travels hundreds of years into the future for a life-changing encounter with the now-mother tree.
