PROGRAM NOTE
Inspired by the many stories that comprise the Arabian Nights, this work is modeled after the tale of Aladdin, who is recruited by a sorcerer from the Maghreb to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp. What follows is a tale of wish-granting genies, the love of a princess and a battle of trickery, magic and Aladdin's ascent to power. With its sweeping landscapes and tales of intrigue, the work expresses with soaring melodies and sweeping lines a mingled plot of decepetion, wonders, romance and magic.
